Occlusal Splint
Occlusal splints are custom-made acrylic devices designed to relieve pain and muscle spasms caused by jaw joint dysfunction due to misalignment with the teeth. They can be fitted on the upper or lower jaw. Depending on the patient’s condition, the splint may be worn only at night or continuously for 24 hours.

Sometimes, closing the teeth causes the jaw joint to shift from its normal position. This can lead to tooth wear, jaw pain and clicking, soreness and swelling in chewing muscles, headaches, neck pain, teeth clenching or grinding, and jaw locking. In such cases, an occlusal splint is recommended.
The occlusal splint reduces tight tooth contact, allowing the lower jaw to move freely and comfortably. By positioning the jaw joint correctly, it relieves muscle and joint pain and discomfort.
