Flap Operation

Flap Operation

The flap operation is performed when bone loss progresses, allowing direct access to the bone beneath the gum to eliminate periodontal pockets.

Periodontal pockets are spaces below the gum line where harmful bacteria accumulate and gum tissue starts to detach from the tooth, making cleaning impossible. If untreated, these bacteria cause inflammation, leading to symptoms like tenderness, bleeding, pain, and bone damage. The goal of the flap operation is to remove these pockets and regenerate lost periodontal ligaments and bone tissue caused by inflammation.

    Before & After

Hear What Our Patients Have to Say About Their Journey

    How is flap operation performed?

The flap operation is typically done under local anesthesia. During the procedure, the gum tissue is lifted to access and remove periodontal pockets, smooth bone irregularities, and, if needed, restore bone loss using suitable biomaterials. After thorough cleaning of infected tissues and bone restoration, the gum is sutured back in place.

What should be considered after the flap operation?
Recovery usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. Patients may experience redness, tenderness, and swelling in the gums for up to 10 days post-operation. To minimize these symptoms, prescribed medications should be taken regularly, and hard, hot, or cold foods avoided. Smoking and alcohol consumption should also be avoided during the healing period.
