Pediatric Dentistry

Pedodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on protecting and treating the oral and dental health of children aged 0 to 13. It also monitors the development of the jaws and face. The goal is to preserve both milk (baby) teeth and permanent teeth in a healthy state. Although baby teeth are temporary, they play a critical role in guiding the alignment and development of the permanent teeth and jaw structure. For this reason, even decayed baby teeth should not be neglected and must be treated rather than extracted prematurely.

    Before & After

    Outstanding Results, Creating Beautiful Smiles

Pedodontics plays a key role in building a positive relationship between the child and the dentist from an early age. Negative childhood experiences are a leading cause of dental anxiety later in life. Pedodontists not only treat dental issues but also observe and support children’s mental and physical development. By monitoring the eruption of teeth, they can identify and intervene early in potential orthodontic problems.

Milk teeth are essential for proper nutrition and speech development during early childhood. They also serve as placeholders for permanent teeth, guiding their proper alignment. Losing milk teeth too early can lead to issues with jaw development and crowded permanent teeth.

A child should see the dentist for the first time shortly after the eruption of the first tooth. Regular dental check-ups should then be scheduled every 6 months to ensure healthy development.

Dental hygiene should begin as soon as the first tooth appears. Initially, parents should clean the baby’s teeth using a clean, damp cloth. Starting from age 1, children can begin brushing with a small toothbrush, but parental supervision is essential as they lack the dexterity for effective cleaning.
