What is Frenectomy (Removal of Lip/Tongue Ligament)?
The frenulum is a soft tissue band that connects the lips, tongue, and cheeks to the jaw. It is typically located between the upper and lower front teeth, under the tongue, or between the cheeks and molars.
Depending on its position and size, the frenulum can sometimes restrict tongue or lip movement—particularly in children. If left untreated, it may lead to difficulties with speech, feeding problems in infants, or long-term issues such as gum recession and orthodontic complications.
In babies, a tight upper frenulum can interfere with tooth alignment and lead to spacing between the front teeth. If the frenulum is abnormally thick, tight, or long, treatment is recommended to prevent further oral health problems.
The procedure to remove or release this tissue is called a frenectomy.

How is phrenoctophy performed?
Thanks to advancing technology, frenectomy is most commonly performed using a laser. Laser frenectomy is a quick and painless procedure, allowing for minimal discomfort and faster healing. In cases where the frenulum is particularly large or deeply attached, a traditional surgical method may be necessary to fully release the tissue.
