Cleft Lip-Palate Treatment

Cleft lip-palate is the condition that occurs in the embryological period due to the defect of the union of the structures in the face area of the baby. The baby may have only cleft lip, cleft palate or cleft lip and palate.

These slits can be one-sided or double-sided. When the baby is born with a cleft in the palate, starting plates should be made to ensure that it can feed. The use of special bottles and bottle heads also helps with feeding. When the baby is 4-6 months old, the cleft lip and when the baby is 1-1.5 years old, the cleft palate is closed by surgery. As a result of these surgeries, it is normal for situations such as tooth eruption, position disorder and stenosis in the jaws to occur. In order to detect these problems, the child should be taken back to the orthodontist at the age of 7-8 years and the treatment plan determined by the doctor should be followed.
